Islands of trouble in the Hussainsagar

Even as the water quality of the 460-year-old lake remains alarmingly poor, manmade islands, created for ‘aesthetic’ appeal, have raised concerns about the water body being gobbled up by the green blobs. Activists are calling for a more comprehensive approach, as decades of efforts to protect the landmark — now surrounded by encroachments and State-sponsored tourist-baiting violations — have drawn a blank, writes Swathi Vadlamudi
